The college is oriented to promote local economy and social development. It focuses on the combination of scientific research with local authorities and enterprises, aiming at transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements. Three research platforms, Big Data Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture-Yunnan Branch, Yunnan Engineering Laboratory for Agricultural Big Data，Yunnan Engineering Research Center for Big Data of Green Agricultural Products, have been established. There is a professional laboratory more than 1000 square meters with a total value over 8 million yuan for its instruments and equipment; a public computer laboratory, equipped with more than 700 computers, has been qualified as a site for National Computer Grade Examination and a site for the registration of National Computer Software Qualification Examination .

In recent years, the faculty have hosted 4 projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NAFC) , dozens of projects by Natural Science Foundation of Yunnan Province as well as the projects entrusted by enterprises or other research institutions. Meanwhile, 110 academic papers have been published , of which more than 20 have been included in SCI and EI; 4 books are published. In 2016, a second prize of Yunnan Science and Technology Progress Award is awarded.
